“Three Parallel Rivers” is referring to the rare natural geographical landscape: three great rivers of Yangtze(Jinsha) 金沙江(长江上游), Mekong(Lancang) 澜沧江(湄公河上游)and Salween(Nujiang) 怒江(薩爾溫江上游), runs in parallel from the Tibet highlands of over 6000m in height, separately not interacting with each other. Covering the vast area of 3500 square kilometers in Yunnan, the UNESCO natural heritage of Three Parallel Rivers, inscribed in 2003, is by far the heritage covering the largest area in the territory of China, covering 15 protected areas of 8 geographic clusters.
