Maichishan Grottoes Scenic Area is listed as one of the four greatest grottoes in China, together with Mogao Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes and Longmen Grottoes.
The grottoes construction had begun in Qin Dynasty (384CE), and was continued in the following dynasties. Among all those other famous grottoes in China, Mt. Maiji Grottoes are the only series of caves which are surrounded by picturesque scenery, with mountains, forests, lakes supporting the man-made, religious murals.

Directions of Getting There
Tianshui Maijishan Airport (THQ) 天水机场
Tianshui Railway Station. Route 6 bus could travel to Qincheng 秦城 area downtown from the square of Tianshui Railway Station for forty minutes. If you hire a taxi to Qincheng it will be around ￥20. There are other buses heading to Maijishan in Taishui town.
Everyday 06:30-18:30, Route 5, 34, 37 will travel to Maijishan Area from Tianshui downtown or Tianshui Railway Station, the journey takes around 1-2 hours.
If you are going to Maijishan from Tianshui Railway Station, take 34 or 37 bus. Route 37 will stop at Maiji Mountain; Route 34 will stop at Maijizhen (Maiji Village), Immortal cliff 仙人崖, Pure Land Temple (Jingtu Temple) 净土寺
From Tianshui town, Route 5 bus will travel from Tianshui Central Square 天水市中心广场 and terminate at Maijishan.
