Also known as Hong Kong National Geopark, it is yet the most compact Global Geopark now. Rare and unique rock formations of the site made the park listed in UNESCO geopark network.
There are two main regions in the park:
- the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region (the extensive spread of hexagonal rock)
- the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region
Directions of Getting There
Usually visitors join guide walks or book a tour as a group to explore the park instead of going by themselves. But if you insist of touring on your own, the only way to do this is hire a boat in Sai Kung Pier or take a taxi to High Island Reservoir East Dam.
Geologist will explain the landforms during the tour, so touring is recommended and boat trip will be included in the package.
